Hey, I'm Kat!
I’m Kat Thompson — a Full Spectrum Doula & Wellness Provider based in Calgary, Alberta, and the founder of Embracing the Journey. My work is grounded in compassion, evidence, and real-life experience. From fertility struggles to postpartum healing, I walk alongside clients through some of the most emotional, vulnerable, and transformative times of their lives.
I’m not your average doula. I’m a cycle-charting, baby-soothing, birth-plan-decoding, emotion-holding, hormone-whispering, research-loving, trauma-informed, resource-sharing, truth-telling force. Whether it’s creating a postpartum sanctuary, supporting a loss, easing someone into a better sleep rhythm, or decoding lab results — I’ve got the insight, empathy, and education to support it all.
This path wasn’t just a career choice — it’s deeply personal. My first birth experience left me with lasting birth trauma. Years later, I navigated a high-risk pregnancy and birth with my second child. Alongside multiple pregnancy losses and a long road through infertility, these experiences shaped who I am and why I do this work. They led me to study fertility, childbirth, postpartum care, grief and loss, sleep science, infant massage, and children’s mental health — always seeking more ways to support the people who need me most.
My life is made up of many pieces from a constantly evolving puzzle — motherhood, grief, growth, grit, and a relentless drive to help others feel seen, heard, and whole. I believe in creating safe, inclusive spaces where every journey is valid and every person truly matters.
And when I show up — whether it’s in your living room, in a hospital, on a Zoom call, or at your side through something big — I come prepared.

Testimonials

I humbly acknowledge that I reside and operate on Treaty 7 territory—the traditional and ancestral lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, and Piikani Nations), the Tsuut’ina Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda Nations (Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley). This land is also home to Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3, within the historical Northwest Métis Homeland.
I recognize and honour the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples who have lived on and cared for these lands for generations. I express my gratitude to the Traditional Knowledge Keepers, Elders—past and present—and the ongoing resilience of Indigenous communities.
As part of my commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, I strive to educate myself, listen, and support Indigenous voices in my work. This includes advocating for culturally respectful care, acknowledging intergenerational trauma, and fostering safe, inclusive spaces for Indigenous families on their fertility, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journeys.

At Embracing the Journey, I welcome and celebrate all individuals, relationships, and family structures. I am a proud ally of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and support individuals in non-traditional relationships, diverse family-building paths, and unique parenting experiences.
I am committed to providing a safe, affirming, and judgment-free space for all who seek support—regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, relationship structure, cultural background, or reproductive journey.
Your path is uniquely yours, and I am here to walk beside you with compassion, knowledge, and respect.
